EN10216-5 Seamless Steel Tubes for Pressure Purposes at Elevated Temperatures - Technical Delivery Conditions

Scope
- Covers seamless tubes made of austenitic stainless steels for high-temperature service.
- Tubes are intended for pressure equipment (e.g., boilers, heat exchangers, pipelines).

    Ordering Information

    Purchasers must specify:
    - Quantity (length, number of tubes)
    - Dimensions (outer diameter, wall thickness)
    - Steel grade (e.g., 1.4301, 1.4404)
    - Delivery condition (e.g., solution annealed)
    - Inspection requirements (e.g., non-destructive testing, hydrostatic pressure)
    - Any special requirements (e.g., specific cleanliness for nuclear applications).

    Steel Grades & Chemical Composition

The standard covers austenitic stainless steels, including:
    - Standard grades: 1.4301 (304), 1.4404 (316L), 1.4541 (321), 1.4571 (316Ti), etc.
    - High-temperature grades: 1.4919, 1.4958, etc.
    - Composition limits for C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cr, Ni, Mo, N, etc., are specified.

    Manufacturing & Delivery Conditions

    - Production method: Seamless, cold/hot finished.
    - Heat treatment: Solution annealing (mandatory for austenitic steels).
    - Surface finish: Free from scale, cracks, and defects; pickling or passivation may be required.

    Inspection & Testing Requirements

    1 Mechanical Properties
    - Tensile test (Rm, Rp0.2, elongation)
    - Hardness test (if required)

    2 Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
    - Eddy current or ultrasonic testing for defect detection.
    - Hydrostatic testing (optional, unless specified).

    3 Other Tests
    - Grain size assessment (for certain grades)
    - Intergranular corrosion test (e.g., Strauss test for sensitization).

    Marking & Certification

    - Tubes must be marked with:
      - Manufacturer’s name/logo
      - Steel grade
      - Dimensions
      - Heat number
      - Standard reference (EN 10216-5).
    - Inspection Certificate 3.1 or 3.2 (EN 10204).

    Tolerance & Dimensions

    - Covers tolerances for outer diameter, wall thickness, straightness, and length.

    Notes on Steel Grades
    - Grades like 1.4301 (304) and 1.4404 (316L) are the most commonly used.
    - Duplex steels (1.4462, 1.4410) offer higher strength and corrosion resistance.
    - High-temperature grades (1.4958, 1.4959) are used in extreme conditions (e.g., petrochemical furnaces).
    - Low-carbon variants (e.g., 1.4306, 1.4404) are preferred for welding applications.
